The Language of a Video Game
Recently I have become engrossed in Genshin Impact. One thing that particularly stood out to me is the attention to detail in so many aspects of the game. I was absolutely drawn in by the names that fit the regions and how they all sound very authentic and believable. There is a beautiful distinction between the fictional Chinese culture and Japanese culture along with all the other places. It also gave me nostalgic feelings for a romanticized China.
So, me being the language lover that I am, I focused on the alphabet. It's not a language, it just a script or alphabet. It would seem actually that everyone in Teyvat speaks the same language. This is probably for simplicity in gameplay, but I have noticed the detail in creating different scripts for different regions. It's a nice little addition that makes the experience even more immersive.
For fun, I wrote a post card in the common script. Since it was a character's birthday, I wrote the birthday message that I got in my in-game mail. As I wrote, I noted that the script is incredibly tedious and difficult to write, so I made a simplified version for handwritten messages.
